Eligibility
In accordance with the wishes of Ken Dyke, Sue’s widower, this competition is aimed at our younger members to reflect Sue’s particular interest in ensuring a vibrant future for Morris.
The competition is open to any individual who is a member of an Open Morris member side, or an Individual, Life or Honorary member of Open Morris, providing they are aged 25 or under on the competition closing date, or submitting an entry relevant to their work with Open Morris members aged 25 or under on the competition closing date.
Entry Format
Entries should include at least a paragraph of text plus a pictorial element; e.g. an A4 page of photographs or illustrations, a video, or animation. If you are unsure whether your chosen type of entry is suitable, please email chair@open-morris.org with an outline of your idea.
Your entry must be in a form which can be both emailed and sent in the post. All entries must include elements which can be printed in Dancing On!, be presented or displayed at the Open Morris AGM, and posted on the Open Morris website.
For example, you could write a tune or a dance and film it in use, with your entry including a CD, DVD or other portable piece of media, plus some text to explain your entry, how and why it was devised and your plans for its future.
You may choose to create a photographic or other artistic display. This should be well annotated and accompanied by comprehensive notes on how the project came about, what it means and why it is important to you.
The theme for the 2019 competition is ‘Morris in our Local Community’.
Submitting Your Entry
To submit your entry, email chair@open-morris.org, before the closing date, with the following details:

~ Your date of birth
~ Your email address
~ Your contact telephone number
~ Details of the format of your entry
Don’t email your entry at this stage – it’s better to warn us it’s on the way first. You will then be given the postal address to which you should send the physical copies of your entry, and full instructions on how to proceed.
Closing Date
The competition closing date is Wednesday 28th August 2019. A panel of independent judges will then look at the entries and confer, before deciding on a winner and runner-up. All entrants will be notified of the results by email by Sunday 6th October 2019, and the two prize-winners will also receive a phone call if possible.
Prizes
Prizes will be presented at the 2019 Open Morris AGM, which will be held near Reading on Sunday November 3rd 2019.
First prize: £100, a certificate from Open Morris and a year’s custodianship of the Sue Dyke Tankard, which will be engraved with your name.
Second prize: £50 and a certificate from Open Morris.
A list of prize winners and any highly commended entrants will be posted on the Open Morris website.
Both first and second place entries will be printed in Dancing On!, displayed at the AGM and posted on the Open Morris website.
Terms and Conditions
All work submitted must be the original work of the entrant and created specifically for the 2019 competition
By entering the competition:
Entrants agree that their entries may be displayed at the Open Morris AGM and at other suitable venues as decided by the Open Morris Committee, as well as on the Open Morris website and in Dancing On! magazine. Entrants will ensure that their entries are able to be displayed in this manner. Any entry that is published on the Open Morris Website will be published under a Creative Commons Non-Commercial Licence.
Entrants give permission for Open Morris to display their names as competition entrants on the Open Morris website and in Dancing On! magazine.
Entrants confirm that any individuals included in material submitted have given their express permission for their image, name or details to appear. Permission must be sought from the parents or legal guardians of anyone under the age of 18 and proof of permission submitted with the competition entry.
Open Morris undertakes to ensure that entries are judged fairly and without bias or favour. If there are no entries of a suitably high standard, no prizes will be issued.
